FOYER is an annual culture and identity print magazine from the point of view of diaspora communities, namely individuals from second-generation and mixed-heritage backgrounds, and third-culture kids.

We are at the forefront of stimulating and opening up dialogues about these diaspora communities and uncovering their uncharted stories and experiences.

FOYER Issue 03: Nature & Culture

Community & connection driven

FOYER was born from a place of kinship. A place to talk and be heard. A place to meet and to learn. FOYER brings together diverse cultural voices with an open-minded approach to creating thoughtful and untold content that helps readers learn about culture and identity, and facilitate dialogues around evolving language and thinking for individuals in this community.

FOYER connects communities through our annual printed magazine, Culture Stew by FOYER podcast series, and FOYER Readers Club newsletter.

Our Story

A one-woman magazine

Originally a communications professional, Fiona Livingston released the first issue of FOYER in early 2022. Fiona is of British-Dutch mixed heritage. She has always been fascinated by how her mother’s Dutch culture influenced her sense of self, cultural ‘norms’ and has always sought out others to share experiences and to find a sense of place. Frustrated by the lack of conversation and understanding around second-generation, mixed heritage and Third Culture Individuals, Fiona decided to create a physical ‘place’ celebrating and showcasing these experiences. In the span of six months, Fiona taught herself to become a print publisher, not only conducting all interviews, and liaising and editing with writers and creators worldwide but also designing the magazine from scratch. FOYER remains a one-woman operation and a proudly independent magazine supported by readers, and patrons.

Based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Fiona hopes to start and build conversations surfacing the incredible insights, experiences and societal contributions made by diaspora communities and TCK individuals, who have thus far been hidden from many cultural conversations and considerations. Through the multi-sensory experience of print, the magazine creates a tangible link to ideas and stories, surfacing and treasuring them for posterity.
